What to Expect

Intake Appointment (First Session)
Before the first session, we will have a brief phone consultation to discuss the client’s treatment needs, my therapeutic approach, and who will attend the appointment (e.g. parent(s) only or parent(s) and child/adolescent). The first session will be a 60-minute assessment. During this appointment, our focus is to gather a detailed history of the presenting concern(s) and identify how I as a child therapist can help meet the client’s needs.

Ongoing Sessions

Following the intake appointment, ongoing sessions typically occur weekly for 45 minutes. However, the frequency of appointments and session length can be adjusted based upon the client’s individual needs.

The structure of these sessions will vary depending upon the presenting concern as well as the age of the client. For younger children, parents are asked to join the session at the beginning or end of the session (sometimes both) to check-in. When working with adolescents, there will always be a collaborative discussion with the adolescent and their parents about the warranted level of parental involvement.
