Dr. Samson has extensive training as a children's psychologist providing a comprehensive behavioral intervention for tic disorders (CBIT). This treatment approach has three main components: increasing awareness of the tic as well as the urge to tic, developing a competing response that can be practiced in response to the urge to tic, and making adjustments to day-to-day activities in ways that facilitate tic reduction.

BFRBs are repetitive self-grooming tendencies that may result in physical and/or emotional pain, yet there have been multiple unsuccessful attempts to stop or reduce the behavior. BFRBs commonly co-occur with other mental health disorders, yet they are rarely talked about. Specific BFRBs our clinicians treat include but are not limited to skin picking (excoriation), hair-pulling (trichotillomania), and nail biting. We treat BFRBs through a comprehensive behavioral intervention that involves a functional behavioral assessment (FBA), self-monitoring, habit reversal training, along with other approaches tailored to the client.
