About Dr. Lewis
Dr. Lewis is a licensed psychologist currently accepting new clients for both in person and virtual therapy services. She has a warm and compassionate approach and believes that understanding her clients’ perceptions, experiences, and values is a fundamental treatment component. Dr. Lewis is experienced in providing assessment, consultation, and therapy services to children, adolescents, and adults with anxiety disorders, autism spectrum disorders, depression, perfectionism, OCD, ADHD, life transitions, stress, and relationship difficulties. Her treatment approach is primarily informed by Cognitive behavioral and Acceptance and Commitment therapy interventions. She is also well-versed in Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), and prioritizes collaborative work with parents. Dr. Lewis uses a creative approach to tailor evidenced-based treatments to match her clients’ needs, strengths, abilities. Her friendly, fluffy sheepadoodle, George, occasionally accompanies her to the office as an emotional support for clients.
Prior to becoming an associate at Dr. Samson’s practice, Dr. Lewis earned a master’s degree in clinical psychology from Loyola University Maryland in 2013, and a Psy.D. degree from Immaculata University in Pennsylvania in 2021. Dr. Lewis completed her predoctoral internship and post-doctoral training at a community mental health center in a rural Maryland county, where she provided evidenced-based, culturally sensitive, trauma-informed treatment to individuals with a wide range of emotional and behavioral symptomatology.
Throughout graduate school Dr. Lewis developed a breadth of assessment experience in her externships at the Kennedy Krieger Institute in the Executive Functioning Clinic, and at Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital’s Autism Spectrum Center. She is competent in diagnosing autism spectrum disorders using the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule-2 (ADOS-2). In addition, Dr. Lewis has conducted neuropsychological and psychoeducational testing to identify cognitive, academic, behavioral, and emotional factors impacting school performance. She has written many comprehensive, detailed reports, and she has collaborated with schools to implement effective accommodations individually geared toward each client. Dr. Lewis’ assessment experience also includes conducting pre-bariatric surgery evaluations and pre-employment evaluations for police officer applicants.
Dr. Lewis also has experience working in two Montgomery County private practice mental health settings where she handled new referral coordination for individual and group therapy services, and provided school observations and accommodation collaboration. She also worked as a PEERS® coach in groups for adolescents and adults with interpersonal challenges. Additionally, she has a 200-hour yoga teacher certification and she incorporates mindfulness practices with many of her clients.
